Fun Facts about Camp Shemesh ...

  • NEW FOR 2010!  Camp Shemesh will be broken down into several specialty camps each week.  Depending on your camper's interests, you can choose from a variety of camps like dinosaurs galore, amazing animals, creepy crawly bugs, space explorers, princess party, fairytale fun and more!  A summer reading safari camp will also be offered for campers who want to continue learning how to read during the summer.  Check out Camp Shemesh's calendar for more info!
  • 3 or 5 day, full or half-day camp experiences for children who turn 3 by September 30, 2009 through 1st grade.
  • Swimming lessons 4 times each week. Campers ride the bus to the JCC's Camp Hoover pool (just 10 minutes away) for swim lessons taught by certified water safety instructors with Red Cross patches acknowledging and rewarding each child's participation and swim skills.
  • A conveniently located camping experience for our New Albany and northeast Columbus families.
  • Groups divided by age for a better camping experience: Campers are divided into three age appropriate units: Dagim (fish) for 3 year olds, Zavim (turtles) for 4 year olds, and Olim (moving up) for campers entering kindergarten and 1st grade.
  • Campers can choose to attend 3 or 5 days of camp per week. For added flexibility, Dagim campers can choose between full and half day options!
  • Weekly special events like a visit from the Bug Man, a Camp Shemesh Carnival and a spot in the New Albany Fourth of July parade! Camp Shemesh campers also participate in dress up days such as Pajama Day, Crazy Hat Day, Super Hero Day and much more!
  • Individual adult supervision and attention with a 6:1 camper to staff ratio. Staff are skilled in early childhood education and are seasoned counselors. Campers even have an Israeli Shlicha to round out their camp staff.
